In his nearly 30 years as a litigation attorney, Dean Hazard has tried approximately 45 bench and jury trials representing plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury, real estate and business disputes. His extensive expertise, keen eye for detail and competitive nature enable him to quickly zero in on what’s most important to a case.
As a volunteer, Dean has served as a settlement officer and arbitrator in Ventura County for more than 20 years, and has been a judge pro tem in Ventura Superior Court for more than 15 years. This experience enables him to understand the case from all aspects of the legal perspective and to build the strongest strategy possible to benefit his client, whether it’s mediation, arbitration or a trial. He works on clients’ behalf to recover legal fees from the opposing counsel, where appropriate.
He received his undergraduate degree cum laude from University of California, Los Angeles in 1978 and graduated from UCLA Law School in 1982. He’s an AV-rated attorney (the highest rating possible from the only national rating service for attorneys) and member of the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates. A former board member and president of the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association, he also served on the Ventura County Bar Association board. Currently he chairs the Client Relations/Fee Dispute Committee of the County Bar. He provides pro bono legal assistance to the new Grace House Hospice being formed in Ventura.
A Ventura resident, Dean and his wife have lived in the county since 1983. They have three grown children and a grandchild. In his free time, he likes to mountain bike, box, swim and travel. He’s also a passionate surfer.
