Conservatorships and Elder Law – Estate Planning, Probate & Trust Administration
Kendall VanConas has devoted her practice to helping families and individuals navigate the legally complex and often emotionally challenging areas of estate planning and elder law. A recognized expert in the specialized area of conservatorship law, Kendall’s clients find peace of mind through her attentive problem solving and her sensitive understanding of the issues families face when dealing with a long-term illness. With thorough attention to detail, Kendall has represented clients in the administration of high value probate and trust estates, and worked with clients to plan estates in excess of $25 million.
Kendall has served as a judge pro tem in the Ventura County Superior Court Probate Department for more than 10 years, and also served as the trustee for her own family’s estates. These personal and professional experiences have enhanced her practice, enabling her to interpret the law from various viewpoints in order to eliminate roadblocks and overcome challenges when they do occur.
Kendall graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in political science and received her law degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1992. After a dozen years in practice, Kendall furthered her education and completed a five-year night program to obtain her master’s degree in taxation from Golden Gate University.
She is a Specialist in Estate Planning, Probate and Trust Law, as certified by the State Bar of California, Board of Legal Specialization. In 2009, she was awarded a rating of ‘AV’ by Martindale-Hubbell, the distinguished resource for attorney peer review information worldwide, denoting Kendall as preeminent in her field.
Kendall’s parents were both attorneys who practiced in Ventura County. Admitted to the Bar in California in 1992, she practiced estate planning and family law with her mother for several years before limiting her practice to estate planning, probate and trust law.
Emulating her parents’ involvement in the community, Kendall has been actively involved with the Ventura County Bar Association (VCBA) since the early years of her practice. She has served on the Client Relations Committee for more than 10 years and on the Executive Committee of the Probate & Estate Planning Section (chair, 2007 – 2009). In 2008, Kendall began serving on VCBA’s Executive Committee. In 2010, she served as president of the organization, and in 2012 she was named co-chairperson of the Bench-Bar Committee. She looks forward to taking her bar leadership skills to the state level.
Kendall has lived in Ventura County for most of her life, and is a 20-year resident of Ventura. She began her law practice with her family’s firm, Cohen and Cohen in Camarillo, and ran the firm as a sole practitioner for several years before joining A to Z Law as an associate attorney in 2003. Kendall became a partner with the firm in 2005 and a named partner in 2012.
Kendall lives in Ventura with her husband and two children. She and her family are active parishioners at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church and in the parish school. In her free time, Kendall enjoys traveling, cooking and entertaining.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation - (Click to read entire article)There are few of us over the age of 8 that actually take the summer off. Apparently, the world has realized what I have known for years – it’s really hard to relax! This seems to have become especially true for students. If high school students aren’t working a summer job, they are looking for things to fulfill their community service credits for school, or things that will enhance their college applications. Undergraduate and graduate students are also interested in gaining work experience in preparation for graduation, and in today’s economic climate you can pick up some remarkable talent for virtually nothing.
Sharing the Balance - (Click to read entire article)Life is a delicate balance. “They” constantly inundate us with dos and don’ts, and it seems impossible to make the right decisions to maintain the balance: Eat healthy, but red wine and dark chocolate are OK; get plenty of exercise, but don’t overdo it; a good night’s sleep is good for you, but too much is linked to diabetes and heart disease. Keeping the proverbial balls in the air is an acquired skill, and one that increases in difficulty as we take on more in life.
